$9.1 Million for Rural Housing Repair

Agriculture Under Secretary for Rural Development Thomas C. Dorr announced that 148 groups and individuals have been selected to receive $9.1 million in grants to repair or rehabilitate housing owned or occupied by very-low and low-income rural citizens. The awards will be distributed in 49 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

The funding is being awarded through USDA Rural Development's Utilities Programs.

One company, the Basin Electric Power Cooperative, in Bismarck, N.D., has been selected for a $325 million loan to finance the Leland Olds Station emissions control project to add sulfur dioxide controls for both of the Leland Olds Station units and nitrous oxide emissions control for Unit 2. The emissions control project is needed to meet Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

The Kamo Electric Cooperative has been selected to receive a $135 million loan to:

  • Build 56 miles of new transmission line
  • 11 new substation
  • Six communications systems
  • Six warehouse/service projects in Oklahoma and Missouri

Many more cooperative in other states have received funding for other projects around the country.

Funding of each recipient is contingent upon their meeting the conditions of the loan agreement.
